New Salsa Classes at Caltech! Now free for undergrads!

Hola Salseros. After a brief hiatus,the Spring series of salsa at Caltech is about to begin! The 8 week series is set to begin on Wednesday April 10th, 2013 and run to May 29, 2013. As always, no partner is necessary. Salsa classes will be taught by the award-winning instructor Sergio Leal.

Also, due to a generous grant from ASCIT, we are now able to offer our classes to Caltech undergrads for no charge! Please bring your ID.

08:00-09:00 pm Salsa 1.5 Intermediate instructed by Latin Dance Pro

All classes will be held in Winnett Lounge. Click here for maps, directions, and parking information. Caltech undergrads with ID may attend classes for free. The cost is $5 per class for other Caltech/JPL affiliates. For the general public, the cost is $10 per class or $64 for the entire 8-week series.

In addition, the position of Treasurer is now open. All current Caltech undergrads and graduate students are eligible. Benefits include free classes and waived choreography fees for the dance team. Time commitment is 2-3 hours a week. Please email Hemanth if you are interested!

Hemanth Siriki is the new president of the Salsa Club

I am pleased to announce that Hemanth Siriki will be taking over as the president of the Salsa Club! With his sound fiscal policies as treasurer, our club has never been healthier. Under his new leadership, I am confident that our club will continue to prosper. Let's all welcome him!

In addition, the position of Treasurer is now open. All current Caltech undergrads and graduate students are eligible. Benefits include free classes and waived choreography fees for the dance team. Time commitment is 2-3 hours a week. Please email Hemanth if you are interested!

Salsa bootcamp and upcoming parties!

We will be having a FREE salsa bootcamp to introduce new Caltech students to the Club and to the Dance! Come join us for a crash course on the basics of Latin dancing. No partner or experience necessary. The event will be held on Thursday, October 4th at Winnett Lounge at 8 pm.

The Ballroom Dance Club will be hosting their orientation party on Saturday, October 6th. Salsa Team members Tony and Shannon will be there for a Salsa showcase! For more information click here.

Finally, the Salsa Club, in partnership with the Caltech Center for Diversity, will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a Salsa Party! The date will be on Friday, October 19th. Stay tuned for more details...

New salsa classes starting next week!

The Summer series of salsa at Caltech is about to begin! The 8 week series is set to begin on Wednesday July 11th, 2012 and run to August 29th, 2012. Salsa classes will be taught by the amazing Sergio Leal. Check him out!

In addition, we are pleased to announce the resumption of Casino Rueda! Casino Rueda is a Cuban style of round-dance developed in Havana in the 1950s and early 1960s. Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by one person, a caller. Done right, it is super fun and looks choreographed! The summer Rueda class will be taught by our Caltech Salsa Team members Rafael Galdamez and Daisy Shim, and will be free!

We performed with the Caltech Jazz Orchestra with a full house at Beckman Auditorium on day after S. Hawinkg's talk. Yes many people were left behind because of not enough seats and they arrived late. Videos will be posteed soon, stay tuned.

The Caltech Salsa Club is excited to announce that Sergio and Salud are coming back to Caltech to teach LA-style for the Fall 2010!. They have been even at the George Lopez's show, we are so glad to have them back to Caltech. They will be joining Afri-K-Sineras as our instructors. The club is going to have a blast the coming academic year with such great teachers in both styles at the same time.

Sergio and Salud are known as the best teachers around for LA-style and are very, very famous, they used to teach at Caltech some years ago, check the following video to learn more about it.

We would like to give a BIG thank you to Arlene Santos for the great job of undertaking the teaching of salsa LA-style at Caltech for 2 years. We are in debt for her incredible job and her team, it has been a pleasure. She help us with setting up the choreography for two dance shows (2009-2010) and was immerse in teaching as much as possible, always putting time and effort on it. We will miss her.
